Events 2015-2016

IWCB members joined Iko and sculptor David Phillips at the dedication of his sculpture in Cronin Park in Cambridge. It was part of the October 24 event "Celebrate the Coast!" to mark the completion of the Western Avenue Reconstruction Project. The artist's work is a perforated stainless steel sculpture with light emanating from within, on a granite base with a bronze relief which includes historic images of The Coast Neighborhood.

We all were treated to two interesting presentations--the first by Suzanne with slides and facts about Switzerland and the second by Ulrike, who gave a talk about German holidays throughout the year. The program concluded with Joann's showing of the short German film "Lock Picking".  A big thank you to the presenters and to Robin for organizing the event!

We couldn't have had more perfect weather for our Boston Harbor Cruise!  About 50 IWCB members and guests enjoyed a memorable evening of congenial company, good food, dancing and beautiful views of the Boston skyline and harbor.  Our thanks to Lalitha, event organizer, and Ines and Francoise for all their efforts to make it happen.

Kudos to Ulrike for doing such a wonderful job organizing and hosting the luncheon at the Loring Greenough House.  Ulrike prepared all the food herself and treated us to some of her special desserts, including German quark cheesecake and carrot cake.  Many thanks, Ulrike!

     

We had a lively discussion of The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt at the Boston Public Library.  Join us on October 19 to talk about our next selection, Lila by Marilynne Robinson!

We had a perfect day for strolling past Millbrook Pond, through Millbrook Meadow, past the beach and into town to visit the shops and view the harbor.
A visit to the Rockport Art Association, followed by lunch overlooking the water and gelato rounded out the day. The train trip up and back allowed for good conversation and lovely water views. Highly recommended for a day excursion from Boston!
